Perceptions are so hard to break, Infact once you form a perception your mind rushes to create new defenses to protect that perception. These new 'defenses' would seem quite logical, yet these facts werent used while creating that perception they could be new ones discovered, googled to be used to defend that perception! There needn't be anything rationale, "I will defend with what ever I can". I will twist facts , see them the way I want to see it, the way it suits me, and use it.
Long back Sourav once commented we are quite irrational in everything we do, yet its a miracle we developed the science of logic , mathematics ... and all other quantifiable models.
Well something on that lines crossed my mind while trying to defend that Rasagoola is actually a Oriya dish, developed in Puri, used as an offering to Lord Jagannath, from medieval times, then subsequently hijacked by Bongs and claimed as theirs. The Bengali Rasagoolas are just round cheese balls in a sugary syrup, if you want to sample the real Rasagoola you have to visit Salepur or Pahala, Bikalananda Kar's Rasgoola are a world apart from any other sweets. The word Rasgoola is derived from Ras (juicy) + goola (gol --- sphere). Juicy sphere ... well you get the idea...
The Rasgoola is supposed to be soft, very soft made of "chena" which is some kind of cheese. Its supposed to be so soft that when you put it in your mouth it should 'melt'. The syrup in which it is kept shouldnt be the dense sugary syrup, it should be sweet yes but just slighter denser than water. Before taking the rasgoola you can squeeze it to take out most of the syrup, so that it almost become dry and then you can savour it.
