Something happened over the din of elections, that escaped us. Maoists numbering around 200 attacked the Hilltop Mine of Nalco in Damonjodi, Orissa. CISF personnel stationed there faught a bloody battle, grossly outnumbered, 10 of them laid down their lives. The Naxalites wanted to grab the huge cache of explosives and possibly a hostage scenario with about 200 workers still in the mine, they failed.
Compared to the Mumbai terrorist attack this hardly got any mainstream media coverage. There were no reporters , screaming on top of their voice, no high profile political visits. I dont even know the details of that encounter. Its sad, how grossly unfair things can be. I am not blaming anyone , but my thoughts are with those brave families , their near and dear ones ... who are all alone in this. There will be the mandatory govt compensation, but thats it. Probably no candle light vigil ...in a way thats good they probably dont need all this superficial show off from citizens like us.
And it is not just this .. almost every other day we have people giving up their lives in Kashmir, North East. But we dont have time for all that...else we will be in mourning for 365 days a year !. When it is all a matter of convenience why do we claim, act to be such enlightened species, when selfishness is at the our very core. Cause once in a while we want to make ourselves believe , see how considerate I am ...and we believe it ..feel good about it and sometimes even boastful.
