When will we learn !

Another flood but this time a little closer to home. Unprecedented floods or may be its the media now, everything gets reported these days. The current floods in Orissa couldnt have been prevented but what could have been done is we could have prepared for this. The current floods are cause of the heavy rains in the upper regions of Mahanadi, and it takes a finite amount of time for that water to trave all the way to the densely populated coastal region.

Common sense on the part of the administration would mean , they would monitor water levels in the upper reaches and have some kind of early warning, so that people can at least prepare, Same goes for the Bihar floods, it was cause by rains in the Nepal and upper reaches of the Kosi river.Sadly the standard response of teh govt is limited to providing relief and some high sounding statements. Once the water recedes so will the activism of the govt.

What an irony, here people are fighting against the water and across the country farmers are committing suicides cause there is no water.
