Why are metaphors so powerful, one would think telling something in an indirect way would'nt be appreciated, but on the contrary this indirect means of communication is much sought after.
The whole of art industry relies on this medium. Shouldnt it be enough to tell someone or talk to oneself in a straightforward way " the girl you loved so much just doesnt reciprocate, she doesnt care" but instead poets write.....
"It rained long back, the water has dried , but the river remains" well something of this type , I dont remember it exactly, but when I listened to this old song, it somehow struck a chord. I liked it, was it cause I was able to 'crack' the meaning that the poet was trying to give, or cause i found an analogy in nature , that my situation is not so bad, that I got company, I am not alone there is sufferring all around, I liked it cause cause I found solace in that thought ? I dont know , that was processed so quickly and I just know that I liked it, why I am not sure.
I guess thats the beauty of art, its abstract, indirect if you are deep and feel it, you can identify with it in so many different ways, its open to interpretation, In that case teh most popular art would have identified with a much wider base of people, each one would have found somethign in it.
