After the grand prix I was in the mood for a movie, and Roman Polanski's China Town seemed interesting, a Hollywood suspense starring Jack Nicholas that was a good enough reason. I wasnt looking for any deep thought provoking movies, so it might as well do the job. Its a nice movie , a pretty good IMDB rating and is considered a classic. But somehow , even though its a good movie I was left wanting for more.
And then while browsing my collection came across Three Monkeys , its a 2008 production, so I wasnt hoping a lot, but it has been critically acclaimed in many film festivals. Its director Nuri Bilge Ceylan was an unknown commodity to me, but still I started it off. And boy was it something, thank God they still make movies like this. Where can I start for this movie, the cinematography, sound, the plot, the characters. It so effortlessly brings out the dark side of human character, you would feel - if I was there may be I would have reacted similarly. All the characters so real. Goes on to show to make a good movie, you dont need special effects, camera tricks or "a save thh world" plot, nothing, we humans are so complex, diverse, intriguing characters, thats more than enough.
Some shots in this movie like the one where she is trying to jump off from the building, that look in her eyes ...The lost shot where he stands alone on the terrace, the clouds rolling in, they say a picture says a thousands words and its shots like these that do justice to that saying.
