I need to learn cooking, tonight I start with Rice and smashed potatos and badhi chura. Things I know and not preparing today, are dal and scrambled eggs. Today being Monday no non veg, its a family thing, no one in my family and extended family takes nonveg on Mondays.
For smashed potatoes, boiled potatoes + chopped onions + 1 teaspoon of mustard oil + fresh cumin leaves + salt to taste. There is another version which is a little complicated, some other day.
SO hot rice + desi ghee + smashed potatoes + raita.
I am also preparing some raita to go along, which will be quite simple, just curd , extra salt and some green chillies. Green chillies from home, the chillies I get in hyderabad dont have the flavour or aroma.
The other dish, that I want to learn would be Dalma, chole, There are some other oriya dishes , but they seem too complicated now. Before that, I need to learn the basics of maasala , what goes in, what adds to the flavour and all that.
Dalma goes with anything, and looks like a managable dish, so first dish to master would be Dalma.
Looks like a good plan :) No worries if the maid doesnt turn up .
